'We Mean Business' - AFK Launches new Self-Employment support Programme
AFK have launched a new programme dedicated to supporting young people aged 18-25 to become self-employed. We believe that everyone should be able to have options to choose from and be able to live the life they choose.
At AFK, we’re thrilled to unveil a groundbreaking programme tailored to empower young individuals aged 18-25 on their journey towards self-employment. We firmly believe that every young person should have the freedom to chart their own course and shape the life they envision.
Our programme places a profound emphasis on the unique needs of each participant. Within this framework, we’re arming our young members with the knowledge, resources, and tools essential for not only developing their entrepreneurial concepts but also excelling in their pursuit of self-employment. By introducing specialised support programmes like this, we are creating avenues for these talented young minds that might otherwise remain undiscovered.
We recognise that motivation plays a pivotal role in the self-employment journey. As part of our mission to foster self-sufficiency, we’re providing peer support networks and dedicated industry mentors who will guide and inspire our young people to succeed in their self-employment aspirations.
In previous years, we’ve witnessed countless success stories, where our beneficiaries harnessed their unique skills and passion to embark on self-employed ventures. Now, we are on a mission to extend this life-changing support to even more young people, equipping them with the essential tools needed to thrive.
Meet Devalle and Ash
In November 2019, Devalle joined AFK seeking support to enter the sports industry while studying for a BTEC in Sports. During the 2020 lockdown, he ventured into dog walking and impressed Lisa, the company owner, who offered him paid work. Since January 2022, Devalle has taken on various roles, and with support, he registered as self-employed, submitted invoices, and filed his first tax return online in early 2023, anticipating ongoing support for future submissions.
In late 2022, Ash joined AFK, initially struggling with her confidence while job hunting and concerns about disclosing her disabilities to potential employers. With the help of a job coach, she identified her aspirations, received tailored support, and grew in confidence, ultimately finding work opportunities and pursuing her passion.
Our programme offers numerous types of assistance, encompassing vital aspects of entrepreneurship. Participants will gain valuable insights into business planning, marketing strategies, gap analysis, SWOT analysis, and the process of registering as self-employed, among numerous other areas of focus.
